Same Look 4 Less – Elegant Girl Bedroom

February 25, 2013 By Vidya 8 Comments

Y’all know the drill by now. I pick a designer room and try to recreate the look on a smaller budget. Today we have  a toddler room that has been transformed into a modern and inviting but not too girly girl’s room by the talented designer Jill Sorensen for Washington Post’s Housecalls. I love the look of the room but not the price tag; their Splurge version – $2,978 and the Save version -$2,383.

My take;

The best part, it costs only $1,291. That is a cost saving of 46% even after keeping the bookcases, pillows, and the Save version rugs the same!

Headboard

#1 Wa Po version – Grace headboard from Z Gallerie -$450

#2 Mine – Hollie Tufted Headboard  $240 from JC Penny

#1 –  Madeline chair in orange for $350 from Urban Outfitters

#2 –  Leather Monte Carlo Club Chair from Home Decorators Collection for $215

Chandelier

#2 – Young House Love Metal Strap Drum Pendant from Shades of Light for $99

Table Lamp

#1 – Chess Knight lamp by Cyan Lighting for 200 from AmazonSame Look 4 Less Elegant Girl Bedroom

#2 – Horse Chess Piece Table Lamp from Lamps Plus ($80). It needs a quick spray paint job though.

Bedding

#1 – Turquoise key duvet cover ($185) from Live Like You

#2 – West Elm‘s Shibori Duvet Cover ($59)

Or if you really want the Greek key pattern then you could DIY it on a plain white duvet. I found a good tutorial on this blog.

Curtains

#1 –  Regency curtain panel ($135 each) from Live Like You

#2 – Luxury Linen Curtain Panel from Overstock for $70. You can sew/ fabric glue two strips of black/navy ribbon on either side to customize standard linen curtains.

Thank you Sanvi. I do one Same Look 4 Less post every month. These are one of the toughest posts as they take so much time to research. I then have to put the pics together in a collage for each, keep track of the cost, create the mood board etc. Plus it is also hard finding a designer room that lists out everything (links) of what they’ve used. Glad you liked it.

I do have to say that these are my favorite series of posts. The dresser in the WaPo sketch is like a smaller version of your dresser redo. 🙂

Aww…thank you. Yes it does. I think reused a dresser that the client already has.
