Wallpaper is Back with a Bang

September 20, 2013 By Vidya Leave a Comment

And how! We are not talking about the wallpaper from your parent’s or grandparent’s era or even the fruit/flower borders of the 80’s. This time around they are bold and beautiful and are mostly used in smaller spaces like accent walls and powder rooms.

Take this fireplace wall for example. The scale and deep colors of the trellis pattern makes quite a statement in there. They have done a great job of keeping the rest of the room mellow so that the spotlight is totally on that accent wall. All pics courtesy Houzz.com

It is the same story in this animal themed nursery.

Wallpaper with a sheen and in geometric patterns also seem to be in vogue.

I’m really liking how the wallpaper sets the tone in this girl’s room. Notice how the other accessories play up the accent wall?

Here’s an example where they’ve used it on all the walls. Of course with a subdued pattern, the immensely popular grass cloth.

Another all around treatment again with a not too overwhelming pattern. Actually even though it is heavily patterned the subtlety of it gives out a serene vibe.

Don’t get me wrong, there are many examples of big and bold patterns used on all the walls, especially in powder rooms. I somehow prefer subtler patterns in powder rooms without windows, makes me feel claustrophobic otherwise.

All this wallpapering talk, I think I need to try my hand at it or at least to get a feel of the process. Have you wallpapered any walls in your home? How did it go? Was it easy? Scary? Will you do it again?
