The New About Page & Vintage Globe Lights

Before we get into today’s post where one of our readers has shared an excellent up-cycling project I just wanted to let you know that I’ve updated the ‘About’ page, which is now called ‘My Story‘ with pics from our professional photo shoot and some tidbits from my life. 🙂 Do check it out.

Now onto the DIY project shared by the super talented Diane Day whom I met through a Facebook Junk Lovers group. She found this old globe at a yard sale for $2.

And turned it into this….

She cut the globe in half, made the Northern hemisphere into a pendant light, and hung it via a recessed light outlet that she converted using a Mini Pendant Light Conversion Kit bought at Lowes (similar to the one I used here). To enhance the look she cut strips out of an old atlas book & Mod Podged it on the inside.

The Southern hemisphere half of the globe got a makeover into a floor lamp using an existing torcherie that she had. She didn’t do anything specific for the inside of this one but I think if you are concerned about the amount of light then you could consider painting the inside of the globe with heat resistant reflective paint.

I have an old torcherie from our apartment days sitting idle in the basement that I’m dying to reuse. Ever since I saw Diane’s lamps I’ve been on the look out for an old globe that I can re-purpose. Have you DIY’ed light fixtures? Do you like to use globes or maps in your decor?
