Remember the cane chairs that I got for our family room from Craigslist a while back? All these months they’ve been lazying it out in our garage collecting dust. Why? ‘Coz I couldn’t decide on the fabric to reupholster these fab finds. No, the fabric is not a big ticket item $ wise but effort wise yes, huge. You see, after my earlier chair reupholstering adventure I was gonna redo these myself. Plus these chairs were going to be in our family room where we spend majority of our awake time. I really wanted to make sure that we liked the fabric as I was not going to change them any time soon.
Now coming to the shortlisting process. With the chance to shake things up in the room I was looking at adding at least 3 styles of fabrics. Don’t get scared, all of them are not going to be on the chair. One for the chairs, another for toss pillows on the chairs, and the last for the throw pillows on the couch, which will actually have a mix of all 3 styles.
Adding Interest
With the beige wall color, neutral rug and curtains, and dark leather sectional the room was screaming for some interest/pattern. Staying within out Transitional comfort zone we narrowed down our search to Ikats and Geometric patterns. I’ve always been a huge fan of Jacobean fabrics. So they too made the list.
Adding Color
Lately I’ve been itching to add some lime green to the room. Along with the lime green fascination came a love for navy. And of course got to have a red ‘coz it is the accent color in our home. I already had quite a few red accents in that room that I loved. So no point in changing things on just a whim.
I thought I got it with these;
Option 1: The lime green Ikat for the chair, the navy geometric, and the floral print for throw pillows.
Option 2: The lime green Ikat for the chair, the navy polka dot, and the bird floral print for throw pillows.
But then came a thought, I B didn’t want to add anymore birds to our home. He has been loud and clear on that one. Though I wanted red in the room I realized that I prefer it in small pops vs. a few red throw pillows. Also from Google images of actual projects using the Ikat fabric it looked like the print was very large, maybe too large for the chairs. More days of deliberation followed and I narrowed down a different set of fabrics. In no particular order or pattern my latest favs;
Today I finally took the plunge and ordered the first two, the lime green Geometric and the navy and red Suzani! I’m so in love with the floral next to the Suzani. Still debating. Thought I’ll wait and see how the first two look in person before I jump the gun on the last one.
What do you think? The Suzani pulls in all the colors, red, green, white, and adds in the navy that I so badly wanted. The floral ties in the red, green, and the creams and grey in the rest of the room. Have you used lime green in your home? What color do you like to pair it with?
