Summer Garden 2014

July 14, 2014 By Vidya Leave a Comment

How y’all doing? Came back home yesterday after an awesome 4 day weekend attending the Haven conference in Atlanta. Finally got to meet so many of my fellow bloggers whom I’ve known only online. I’m still looking through hundreds of pics and business cards. Hoping to get my recap post up by Wednesday (remember we changed the posting schedule to M, W, F?). So while I was away my summer garden had gone bonkers! I tell ya, really things grew like crazy in all of three days, wait maybe a week with all the packing I was not paying much attention during the first half of the week.

The most vigorous of all is the Lotus. The container is full I mean FULL of leaves with new leaves popping up by the hour (at least it looks like). I just hope that it will bloom soon; it is already mid July. Please please bloom ASAP!

I never really believed all the folks over the internet (and at the nursery) when they said Butterfly Bushes grow like crazy. Especially after a poor year 1 performance. But not so in its 2nd year. Every week it grows an inch or two! Good thing I planted it where I wanted some cover.

You can’t really gauge how tall it is in the above pic as our yard slopes and I’m standing in my neighbor’s yard, which is at least 2 feet below ours. Here’s an eye level shot.

The bonus, we get to enjoy butterflies and even a humming bird moth!

Another super grower or rather growers in my summer garden are the Sunflowers along my neighbor’s fence in the side bed.

A big surprise that greeted me home were my Gladioli and

Hydrangea blooms.

Though I might have lost one of the Abelia Canyon Creek bushes to the harsh winter the other one made up for it with millions of buds.

As always the ever bankable Salvia is in full form.

The duds; Japanese Beetles. Those little buggers are everywhere even got my Creeping Jenny!

The most disappointing plants of all, my 2 Dwarf Crepe Myrtles in the front. Both of them regrew from the root not off dead wood like they usually do. Now they are taking forever to grow! At this rate don’t think we’ll get to see any blooms this year.

How is your garden coming along?
