Moroccan Design

August 31, 2012 By Vidya 4 Comments

Morocco, one of the places on my ‘Will go there some day’ list! Moroccan architecture is characterized by archways, beautiful domes, enchanting courtyards, color, and geometric patterns. The last one, I’m in loooove with. You can read more about my Moroccan trellis craze here. All pics courtesy Houzz.

Nowhere in the world do they combine such intricate patterns and color so beautifully! Just look at this room.

All that pattern in a single place! And the beauty of it all, it works!

To tell ya the truth I’m not a big fan of the traditional arch in buildings, in fact I really really don’t like them.  But the leaf-inspired arch, I’m a huge fan of. I don’t know why, the only difference is the top part but some how the small change in the top has me begging for more. I guess that is why I’m in love with the Moroccan trellis patterns!

Don’t these enchanting windows frame the outdoor view perfectly?

Another common design feature that is associated with Morocco are the colorful often handmade tiles. Again more pattern and color on these staircase treads.

Want to bring in some Morocco into your home but don’t know where to start? By now, y’all  know that I lean more towards adding subtle touches, so here are a few examples along the same lines.

In this guest room by Jerry Jacobs Design they’ve incorporated the color and the pattern separately. The deep blue and pattern on the headboard are common in Moroccan tiles. Separating them out gives a modern feel to the room.

If you are afraid of all the color, even adding a light fixture like this can create a wonderful ambiance. Seriously, I could stare at that ceiling for hours!

Or you could add a mirror like in this bathroom. Aren’t those beauties to die for? Notice how every thing else in the room is contemporary?

Ain’t that a quick and fun trip to Morocco? Can’t wait for the day that I actually get to see the place for real? Any of you been to Morocco?

Have a great long weekend folks! See you Tuesday!

PS: I really need to get that Moroccan Chandelier!

Love, love, love Moroccan design and the colors. The local HomeGoods has bowls with Moroccan pattern and I am so tempted to get them 🙂

LOL! I’ve been staying away from those lanterns and chandeliers at Home Goods for some time now. Might just given in one of these days.
