And Then There Was Paint!

July 22, 2013 By Vidya 8 Comments

If you have been following WUHS on Facebook you might already know that I’ve been painting the last 2 days. After 3 yrs in our home every room on the main level is finally painted!

Actually the only room that was holding out on the main level was the 2 story foyer. In all these years for the first time I realized why having a small 2 story foyer was in fact a boon. If it was any larger we would have had to hire painters. Frankly that was our plan from day 1 but ever since I heard that one of our friend’s owned the extra tall ladder I’ve had this inkling to try it on our own. So with a borrowed ladder, 2 gallons of paint, and 2 days we tackled the foyer, the retreat, the stairwell, and the upstairs hallway.

Not ready for the reveal yet but here’s a sneak peak of the color.

And Then There Was Paint!

Nothing special the same SW Kilim Beige that we have in the downstairs hallway that is connected to the foyer. As it is a very open space where each room flows into the other we kept it the same.

I tell ya if a dude with a fear of heights, the roots of which can be found in his motion sickness and a dudette (totally stealing that from my kids’ vocabulary) with vertigo can do it then you can too!

And Then There Was Paint!

The unflattering pics aside, I didn’t dare go up 2 stories high but did the 1.5 stories high stairwell. ‘Coz we split it up like that we kept the task well within our height endurance levels. In the end it wasn’t really bad.

The only cumbersome part was all the taping as on every inch of wall space we had both crown molding and chair rail. Seriously, the day I learn to paint without tape I’ll be a lot richer!

And Then There Was Paint!

Have you painted a 2 story space? How did it go? Are you a painter’s tape user? If you don’t use tape please please spill the secret. How do you do it?

Love the color! more like a light beige right? More up in my alley :). You are really brave, I can’t do more than 2-3 steps on a step ladder :(.

Yes it is a light beige. Safe and neutral. I’m way too fickle with my paint color choices that if I pick a non neutral I’ll get bored of it in months. Don’t want to repaint any time soon.

I use an angled brush to avoid painters tape, with this brush you ofcourse need a study hand. If however there are stripes on the wall painters tape is the way to go to get laser sharp paint lines.

Wow, would love to see your stripe wall. I’ve been planning on doing on in the guest bedroom for so long.

Taping is a waste of time and money. You also get paint bleeding under the tape. I also use the Wooster stubby brush, love it. A steady hand and experience is also key. Try it, you will never tape again.
